As one of Port San Antonio’s anchor tenants, Lockheed Martin Commercial Engine Solutions is Lockheed Martin Corporation’s (LMC) only aircraft engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider and serves as the company’s shining star for public/private partnerships. Spawned out of BRAC closures, LMC and the U.S. Air Force (USAF) have teamed up to perform maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) on more than 2,000 engines at Port San Antonio, keeping legacy workhorses C-5s, C-130s, and P-3s in the air to support troops and humanitarian efforts around the globe.
High production numbers coupled with repeatedly earning the USAF’s highest performance rating have made Lockheed Martin Commercial Engine Solutions the definitive example of how private industry and public entities can work together for the benefit of both. Kelly has perfected the model and, in 2010, decided to use the military business base as a foundation from which to enter the commercial engine market.
Lockheed Martin Commercial Engine Solutions is able to capitalize on its many years of experience in the military arena by deciding to broaden its business base with commercial engines that derived from military engines.
Lockheed Martin has made a considerable investment so Lockheed Martin Commercial Engine Solutions can maintain its service to the military and bring a substantial amount of commercial engine MRO work to San Antonio.
