Just as it did in 2014 and 2015, Port San Antonio is once again providing 50,000-square feet of space and utilities to this year’s Elf Louise Christmas Project.
The facility, located at 201 N. Frank Luke Dr., will be used during the holiday season to store and wrap thousands of gifts provided by area residents. The donated items, which include various types of toys and games, will then be distributed to families throughout the San Antonio community. Volunteers will occupy the space from early November to mid-January. Approximately 4,500 volunteers are expected to help wrap and deliver the gifts as part of the initiative.
“Our facility at Port San Antonio has been a perfect fit for the needs of our organization,” states Elf Louise Executive Director Bill Harrison. “The size and level of security that come with our holiday headquarters are unmatched. Additionally, we are conveniently located within a ten-mile radius of most of the families served by the Elf Louise Christmas Project. We are grateful for the relationship we have enjoyed with the Port over the past three years.”
Founded in 1969 by Trinity University student Louise Locker, the Elf Louise Christmas Project works annually in conjunction with thousands of big-hearted South Texans, who donate their time and resources to help less-fortunate children who might otherwise be forgotten. In 2015 the organization was able to spread its cheer to nearly 20,000 children from over 5,600 area families.
