Marc Whyte, who for the past eight years has been named by Texas Monthly magazine as a “Rising Star” in the state’s legal profession, is the newest arrival to Port San Antonio’s 11-member board of directors. He was named to the position by District 10 City Councilman Mike Gallagher.
“It’s a sincere pleasure to have someone of Marc’s professional stature join our team,” said Board Chair Victoria Garcia. “He comes to us at an especially important and exciting time as we continue to move forward to create 5,000 new jobs for San Antonio by 2020. His unparalleled credentials in law and in business, combined with his longstanding dedication to serving our community, are a great asset to our team.”
“Marc’s background and track record make him a great addition to the Port’s board of directors,” said Councilman Gallagher. “Throughout his career, he has earned the respect and trust of people throughout the city. He will be an ally in helping the Port advance its job-creation mission, thanks to his knowledge of many of our region’s key business and employment sectors, coupled with his ability to see the big picture and think and act strategically.”
“For several years I’ve seen the great progress that Port San Antonio has made in helping transform our community and enabling people across our region to connect with important opportunities,” said Whyte. “I’m greatly looking forward to working with my fellow board members in advancing their vision for the Port in the years ahead as a large and growing economic engine for our community.”
Born in Houston, Whyte earned an undergraduate degree in business from Wake Forest University in North Carolina and a law degree with honors from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.
His career began with one of the state’s largest law firms, where he focused on employment, energy and banking litigation.
He launched his own practice, Whyte PLLC, in 2016. He continues representing small and large business clients throughout Texas, in both state and federal courts, and handles insurance litigation matters as well. He is also licensed to practice in Colorado.
Whyte has earned numerous distinctions and held several leadership positions within his profession and in his service to the San Antonio community.
In addition to the accolades received by Texas Monthly magazine, he was named among San Antonio’s top-rated business litigation lawyers by Super Lawyers magazine.
He was the 2009 board president for the Defense Counsel of San Antonio and is a fellow of the San Antonio Bar Association.
Whyte’s past community board positions include the Faith Family Clinic, where he served from 2013 to 2015, and the Valero Alamo Bowl Committee, in which he participated from 2012 to 2015.
He is a 2015 graduate of Leadership San Antonio—the prestigious program jointly sponsored by the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce which provides the community’s rising leaders executive-level training as they seek to expand their service to San Antonio.
Whyte and his wife Lorien, also an attorney, are the proud parents of two young daughters.
