SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -  City of San Antonio District 1 Councilwoman Sukh Kaur has appointed Gabe Farias to Port San Antonio's 11-member Board of Directors.

Over the course of 30 years, Farias has focused on connecting organizations and people from across the region to a wide range of opportunities. Among them, he has helped people by opening career, educational and entrepreneurial pathways like those thriving on the Port's 1,900-acre innovation campus, which is the region's largest and fastest-growing economic engine centered around advanced technologies.

"Gabe has deep roots in our community and brings very important experience and perspective to his new public service role on the Port's Board of Directors," said Councilwoman Kaur. "Throughout his career, he has empowered and supported businesses of all types and ensured strategic alignment between educators, industries and community leaders. Gabe's knowledge, leadership and longstanding passion for serving San Antonians will be tremendous assets to the Port Board as it continues advancing a bold vision for our region's future."

"We greatly appreciate Councilwoman Kaur's appointment of Gabe as our newest colleague," said Board Chair Margaret Wilson-Anaglia. "He comes ready to hit the ground running, thanks to his extensive knowledge and personal appreciation for our history and clear understanding of our mission today. He will be an important voice and provide much-valued insights to inform our work as we continue to grow a very special place where thousands of people are building their futures."

"I'm deeply grateful to Councilwoman Kaur for her confidence and for having afforded me this terrific opportunity, and to Margaret and my new colleagues for their warm welcome as we look forward to doing some great things together," said Farias. "For many years, I was able to observe and support the amazing transition of the former Kelly Air Force Base into the burgeoning world-class technology innovation destination it is today. I am thrilled to be part of the team."

Farias is Managing Partner of the newly formed consultancy Jaeger FC, bringing expertise in governmental relations, public affairs and relations and entertainment. As a television and radio sports broadcast veteran, he currently hosts the popular South Texas High School Football Game Day program and is a sideline reporter for MeTV's Saturday Night High School Football Showcase and KSAT-TV's Big Game Coverage.

He has also been a mainstay in the local business community. This includes five years, from 2012 to 2017, at the helm of the West San Antonio Chamber of Commerce as its President and CEO, during which he tripled the organization's membership.

As a public servant, he was Chief of Staff and Director of Communications for former City Council District 3 Councilwoman Jennifer V. Ramos. Prior to that, he was Director of Communications for former District 3 Councilmember — and now Texas State Senator — Roland Gutierrez. Farias' portfolio at City Hall included leadership of various policy initiatives and projects centered around wellness and many other quality of life priorities for residents of the district.

Farias has also served on several other boards and commissions. As a recent former member of the Brooks Development Authority Board, he chaired the organization's Planning and Development Committee. Additionally, Farias served on the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) Board of Directors for the Mission Drive-in development area. He was also Chairman of the Texas Tri-County Chamber of Commerce Board  — representing an area that covers Guadalupe, Bexar and Comal Counties.

Born and raised in the Southside of San Antonio, Farias graduated from Harlandale ISD's McCollum High School. He earned an undergraduate degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Arizona Global Campus and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Development from the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW).

Farias is married to the former Katie Ann Evans and is proud father to the couple's two young children. His spouse Katie is the current Vice President of the Southside ISD School Board.
