SMALL AREA BUSINESSES SUPPORT $27 MILLION IN PROJECTS AT PORT IN FISCAL 2019

11-21-2019

During Fiscal Year 2019, which ended Sept. 30, Port San Antonio awarded $27.1 million in contracts to small businesses – 95 percent of which are based in Bexar County.

This amount reflects approximately 100 procurements through small minority-, woman- and veteran-owned business enterprises (SMWVBEs).

The vendors provided an array of important services to the Port, whose customers operate within approximately 10 million square feet of commercial and industrial facilities throughout 1,900 acres and employ over 13,000 people in target industries that include aerospace, cybersecurity, applied technology and defense.

Key projects undertaken by SWMBE vendors during the year included renovations to two major facilities for Air Force personnel, site demolitions, architectural design services for tenant improvements, road engineering design and design services for the Port’s Project Tech office facilities.

“Small businesses are vital partners in supporting our customers’ operations and helping to create jobs for our region,” said Port San Antonio President and CEO Jim Perschbach. “As a result of the bustling activity at the Port, we rely on the expertise of many vendors as we prepare for further growth.”
