Port San Antonio, the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT) and area schools are working together to provide additional free internet access to the surrounding community during the COVID-19 crisis.

In early May, as Edgewood ISD students and their families saw increased need for public internet hotspots in the district, the Port and the museum’s IT and telecommunications teams conducted significant upgrades to expanded the reach and bandwidth of the Wi-Fi system at the museum’s location at 102 Mabry Dr.

The Port San Antonio IT team works to install the hotspot.

Members of the Port’s IT and Telecommunications team band together at SAMSAT.

Although the museum remains closed, the enhanced Wi-Fi system now covers parking areas adjacent to the building (see the map below). This allows students and other users to remain in their vehicles and observe social distancing while accessing the Internet on laptops and tablets.
